Cal 2-27 Maintenance List

7.3.12. Here's a 1 year update. The chainplates are still dry and I believe the butyl to be working perfectly.

Update (8.1.11). I sealed the starboard chainplate at deck level with butyl putty. When I remove the stays I will remove the chainplates and do a more thorough job although I do believe I have stopped the leak...ast least for the time being.
Leaking Chainplates.  Yes of course our chainplates leak and I'd like to look into fixing that. I really don't have the time and skills as yet to do a major overhaul. The first plan is to seal up the chainplates at deck level.

Leaky Chainplates

Companionway trim. This obviously needs to be addressed. I really don't have a good plan for this. Teak trim would be nice and really not too expensive but there are a lot of angles that I'd need to contend with to make it look nice. My finish woodworking skills are pretty poor but I think it's doable. I'd want to make it somewhat removable in case I ever need to get to the headliner.

7.3.12. Update. I still haven't repaired these holes. They are non structural but the boat would look nicer if they didn't exist.
There are lots of holes in the fiberglass wall of one of the settees. I'm not sure whether I'd rather repair them...the problem then becomes trying to match gel coat color in which I hear is near impossible. The other option might be building a teak door. This would fix the holes in the fiberglass by totally removing that section and also add functionality by creating much better access to this storage area.

7.3.12 Upate. Pitting has been made a little better with light sanding. I believe it can all be made better with sanding and buffing but I will need to find a lot more time.  The work that I did do including fixing some gelcoat nicks was rewarding and fun.

There's some pitting of the gelcoat especially in the starboard cockpit. I really dont' know what to do about this. I don't know if it's practical to add a new layer of gelcoat and do my best to tape off sections that will best hide the different colors.

Need to seal starboard opening port with butyl
